Wedding fever is set to hit new heights next year with the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The date has been set and all eyes will be on the young couple and especially fashionista Meghan, who we have no doubt will be setting bridal trends for years to come.

Like Kate Middleton before her, Meghan Markle has a keen fashion sense that always sees her mixing up designer with everyday fashion and we have no doubt that some of the bridal fashion trends below will make an appearance in May of next year.

We’ve pulled together the top 10 bridal fashion trends you need to know for 2018 so that your day will be as magical as the future princesses.

  1. Minimal and magical

Classic and confident but with a modern twist, you can’t go wrong with a timeless gown. Minimal is the choice with a plain canvas keeping the focus on your beautiful, radiant face. Think structured silhouettes and classic necklines in heavy satins and silks that will have you looking timeless and elegant.

  1. Fly high with a cape

wedding dress trends 2018The accessory of the season will help you make a bold entrance and gives you an alternative from the traditional veil. Whether you go for a full-length cape or shorter cape-let, the drama you will add is just like having a complete outfit change during the day.

  1. Make a statement

Your skirt choice can completely change a plain dress into a showstopper. Play with the hemlines or go bold with a thigh-high slit that will make your entrance truly memorable. Or bring the drama and whimsy with a full skirt of cascading ruffles that will bowl your other half over.

  1. Colour me beautiful

wedding dress trends 2018Brides don’t have to wear white and the catwalks were alight with a twist on “something blue” as well as modern gowns coloured with pinks, purples and greys.  A real standout favourite were golden gowns that sparkled and added a glamorous evening feel with their metallic fabrics and embellishments.

  1. Monochrome madness

Designers everywhere were adding punches of black and making bold statements with edgy monochrome embellishments. If you want to make a real edgy statement on your wedding day then r take inspiration from Vera Wang’s enlarged black flowers or opt for long black gloves a black belt or a simple black ribbon.

  1. Halt where you want

wedding dress trends 2018Elegant and classic a halterneck style will put the emphasis on your face and can really show off your figure. While some of the dresses on the catwalk had plunging necklines, dipping low down, you can go for a more modest style that flatters the upper body.

  1. Bows and whistles

Flirty and fun, the classic bow has been on trend for a few years and isn’t going anywhere. Romantic and whimsical, you can choose to keep it dainty and delicate with a simple embellishment or make a bold statement with oversized bows adorning the sleeves, train or even neckline of your dress.

  1. Dramatic and regal

Perhaps Meghan Markle will reject all the ultra-modern trends and go down the traditional route. Getting ever more popular, the classic ballgown with romantic soft tulle of jacquard could be the choice for a modern princess looking to make a dramatic entrance.

  1. Show some flesh

wedding dress trends 2018Thigh high splits and side cut-outs have featured on the catwalks. But if this seems a bit too daring for you then sheer, split sleeves or indeed a sheer skirt could be a dramatic, yet tasteful way to make a fashion statement.

  1. Turn tradition on its head

And finally, if you really don’t want to go down the traditional route then try trousers. Wedding jumpsuits and trousersuits were almost as common on the runways as dresses and are a great way to have a comfortable yet unique and stylish look for your big day.
